Discovery Hour

10:45 – 11:45 am Sunday mornings for all ages

Discovery Hour is our education hour at Westview Church. We have something for children ages 3 through high school, and adult classes too! The nursery is open for infants and toddlers during Discovery Hour.



252 Basics is our elementary family ministry program. Children & parents should check in by 10:40 outside of room 111 in the hallway. Please have your child find his/her nametag and head to class.



7th-8th grades meet downstairs in the Youth Room. 8th graders are currently going through confirmation curriculum, and 6th/7th graders use Grapple curriculum.



9th-12th graders meet in the clinic room downstairs.

Class Title: “Where do I come in?”

Dates: January 4 – February 15

DescriptionDo you think of yourself as a missionary?  In reality, every part of your daily life is ‘mission work’ – whether you’re driving children to soccer practice, preparing for a meeting, or getting to know your next-door neighbor.  Find out how to develop a mission mindset in your life with this discovery hour class.


Class Title: “Leading Your Family Like Jesus”

Facilitator: Katherine Johnson and Erika Johnson

Location: Room 104

Dates: January 4 – February 15

DescriptionDoes your family need a five-star general at the helm?  A psychologist?  A referee?  There’s a better role model: Jesus!  This study shows how every family member benefits when parents take the reins as servant leaders.  Moms and dads will see themselves in a whole new light – as life-changers who get their example, strength, and joy from following Jesus at home.  Join us down a path to a truly Christ-centered family, where integrity, love, grace, self-sacrifice, and forgiveness make all the difference.


Class Title: “Events of Holy Week”

Dates: February 22 – March 29

DescriptionThis in-depth Bible Study during the season of Lent will focus on some of the more poignant moments of the final week of Jesus’ life.  Focus will be given in examining the gospel narrative as expressed in scripture, exploring the ‘behind-the-scenes’ factors that flesh out the story, and gaining a deeper appreciation for this cataclysmic working of God’s great love. 


Class Title: “Children and Materialism”

Dates: March 1 – March 29

DescriptionWithin moments of turning on the TV, commercials blare that we need more.  Materialism permeates our everyday life.  How do we raise kids that appreciate ‘enough is enough?’  How do we help children understand that satisfaction in God is more than enough?  Join us as we explore how we as parents can model gratefulness and compassion and teach contentment and perspective. 


Class Title: “What do I do with my life?”

Facilitator: Chuck Huygens

Location: Room 104

Dates: April 12 – May 17

Description: Learn how God is calling you to serve Him and your coworkers, customers, and employers at your workplace with this class.  Explore how to translate Sunday’s good news into weekday  action in the arena where you have the greatest influence. 


Class Title:  Westview 101

Facilitator:  Pastor Josh

Location:  Free Clinic Waiting Room

Dates:  April 26 – May 10

Description: What does it mean to be the Church?  Reformed?  Westview?  This class will explore the answers to each of those    questions.  While especially geared for guests, new regular attenders, and new partners, all of Westview is invited to learn more about these   important aspects of our Christian identity.
