The Heart of Royalty, part 4

David laughed as he supported Simon by the arm and helped him down into the chair. “Come now, Simon,” he said, “Father will think we didn’t feed you and you faint from hunger.” “No,” said King George as he pulled a smaller wooden chair close to Simon and sat facing him, “He’s just weary from a long day. Simon, can I get you some tea?” At that, Queen Anne entered the room carrying a tray of tea and small pastries. “Just in time, my love!” said the King as he jumped up to clear a space on a low table for the tray.

And so it went. Simon was included as a guest with King George, Queen Anne and Prince David, enjoying the evening hours together in the warm den before a delightful fire. They talked and told him of plans they had to help the farmers in the kingdom, and of other ideas and plans, some large, some small, some even sounding trivial to Simon.

They talked of relations with other kingdoms and plans for building peace, but they also seemed interested in a widow’s broken down front step. David asked, “Father, is she safe now? Is the step going to work for her?” “Oh yes!” answered the King, “The stones were fine for the foundation. All that was needed was to replace the exposed brickwork and provide a new railing.”
