Habitat for Humanity Needs You

With God’s help we will be working together every Wednesday through Saturday in July to help construct a home for someone who otherwise would not be able to purchase a house.   It’s going to be hot, sweaty, challenging and rewarding…come join the fun!

We still have room for volunteers and coordinators.  If you want to help and have fun too sign up to change someone’s life for the better (your life too).  We have lots of room left and anyone regardless of your construction abilities will be appreciated.  You will learn and laugh alongside a friend.  Contact Jen in the church office at Nielsen(at)Westview(dot)org.

Join the Westview Church Relay for Life Team

Southern Dallas County Relay for Life, sponsored by The American Cancer Society.  June 2, 4 to 11 pm.  We need team members for the Westview Church Team! It is a family friendly event.  Sean Covington  to perform that night and Heather MacLennon sings the National Anthem.  A bounce house and costumed characters for the kids with a DJ and other entertainment that night too.  There is usually food available for a free will donation.  This is a WALKING event. A member of the team will be on the track at all times during the night. So the actual commitment for each person is limited to an hour.  All team members should be there for the opening to introduce each team.  During the event there is a survivor’s lap that is for Cancer Survivors and their caregivers.  At dusk there will be a luminary ceremony is that is very touching.  Survivors speak as luminaries are lit around the track spelling the word HOPE in light.  It’s the highlight of the evening! Information is at the Welcome Center to become a team member as well as luminary forms (I believe luminaries are a $10 donation) and forms for cancer survivors and caregivers. To join the team, go to www.relayforlife.org put Waukee, IA in the search box, then click on join a team, then look for Westview Church. Email Teresa Kirby with questions (tweeterlyn(at)mchsi(dot)com) .

Please click to read one survivor’s story.  It will touch your heart.

We NEED Luminaries – Click to see a letter from Teresa about buying a luminary.

The Fruitful Vine Garden Enters 4th Season

The Fruitful Vine community garden is gearing up for our 4th season and is looking for individuals/families/groups/organizations to “adopt” sections of the garden. If you or your group would like to help out this year, now is the time to sign up! You would take responsibility for one area of produce, and we stick to basic, easily-prepared fruits and vegetables. The garden is on Westview grounds, just east of the driveway from University Ave., and all produce benefits the Waukee Area Christian Food Pantry.

You can provide your own seeds/plants, or we can help you get started. We also have master gardeners on our garden team who are available for guidance. If you would like to join the gardening team, email Angie Schmitt at amschmitt(at)me(dot)com, and let her know any preferences you have about what section you’d like to adopt. Options include: beans & peas; cucumbers; lettuce & root vegetables (beets/carrots/radishes); melons; peppers; potatoes/sweet potatoes; squash/pumpkins; tomatoes.

If you don’t want to adopt a section, but would like to help occasionally with weeding/watering/harvesting, let Angie know that as well, so you can be placed on the  volunteer email list.

Sign up now for a “Dinner for 8″ group!

Dinner for 8 – New groups are forming.  Sign up today! Make new friendships at Westview!  If you have questions, call Tina Brown 987-4144.

These groups of 8 will meet monthly for dinner, for four months. It’s a fun and easy way to get to know others from Westview! While you’re thinking about your 2012 goals…

Consider starting 2012 with plans to spend some time–or more time–in the Bible each day! Romans 15 tells us the Scriptures were written to teach, encourage, and give us hope. Reading the Word of God is a crucial part of growing in our relationships with God and with others. One tool you might find helpful is a reading plan. The website YouVersion has hundreds of reading plans to choose from. You may wish to try the One Year® Bible reading plan, or pick another that interests you. You can select which translation you prefer, and track your progress through various online tools, such as mobile apps or emailed readings. If you do not have a printed Bible and would like one, just ask a pastor or a host at the Welcome Center and Westview will provide you with one.
