Gospel according to Matthew 16 : 13-28

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.

: :

We are gifted by God to recognize Jesus!  Celebrate and be comforted!  What else, or WHO else, might God be helping you to see near you, or IN you today?

Day 24 readings:To the YouVersion reading for the day

Matthew 15: 29-39

32 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.”

: :

This is the Son of God; God personified.  We are His body.  How has Jesus been compassionate and provided for you this week?  How is He being compassionate to others through you?

Genesis 46-47

47:10 Then Jacob blessed Pharaoh and went out from his presence.

::

I love that Jacob is blessing this stranger who has a different faith and life.  Who today needs your blessing?  How can you prosper them?

Day 21:

: : :

Matthew 13: 47–58

The Parable of the Net

47 ”Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish.48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away.49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous50 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

: : :

If the goal of the sorter-angels is to keep what is good, and take away what is bad, what will be left of our lives?  What will you do today that will be kept?

YouVersion :: One Year Bible :: Day 20

Proverbs 4: 1-6

4 Then he taught me, and he said to me,
“Take hold of my words with all your heart;
keep my commands, and you will live.

5 Get wisdom, get understanding;
do not forget my words or turn away from them.

Today God offers us His words for our good, for our life.  How can we better “get wisdom, get understanding; [and] not forget [His] words or turn away from them?”

Family Nutrition Program to launch in January, and YOU can help!

Waukee Area Christian Services, in partnership with the Dallas County Extension office, is excited to offer its first-ever Family Nutrition Program on Monday evenings for eight weeks (Jan. 16 – Mar. 5) in the food pantry conference room!  Participating families will learn ways to prepare easy, affordable and healthy recipes, and strengthen family relationships in the process. Childcare will be provided while parents attend the classes.

Can you help make this nutrition program even better? Volunteers are needed in two ways:

(1)   Provide a meal for 20-30 people at Westview on a Monday evening prior to the class (6 p.m. supper, 6:30 p.m. class), or

(2)   Provide basic ingredients for a recipe of the week that participants can take home and prepare on their own. Recipes are provided for you to choose from, and most have just 4 or 5 ingredients.

You can volunteer for one week or multiple weeks. For more information about how you, your family, or small group can help, contact Melissa Stimple at 321-0894.

While you’re thinking about your 2012 goals…

Consider starting 2012 with plans to spend some time–or more time–in the Bible each day! Romans 15 tells us the Scriptures were written to teach, encourage, and give us hope. Reading the Word of God is a crucial part of growing in our relationships with God and with others. One tool you might find helpful is a reading plan. The website YouVersion has hundreds of reading plans to choose from. You may wish to try the One Year® Bible reading plan, or pick another that interests you. You can select which translation you prefer, and track your progress through various online tools, such as mobile apps or emailed readings. If you do not have a printed Bible and would like one, just ask a pastor or a host at the Welcome Center and Westview will provide you with one.

Weather-related closing information

Westview Church follows the Waukee school district closing schedule. If Waukee has no school or an early out due to bad weather, then evening events at Westview are also cancelled. Please contact your group leader if you have any questions about a specific event.

If bad weather occurs on a Sunday morning, you may check for service cancellations by either calling the church phone number, 515-987-3220, checking this website, or watching local TV stations.
